WASHINGTON | Wed Jun 20, 2012 1:02pm EDT

scanning the headlines this morning

over at HuffPo and it's Boston Boston Boston.

I found this over there too:

(Credit: Facebook/America Loves Iraq)
The two boys in the photo "understand far too well what it is like in the immediate aftermath of a terror attack," Gosztola wrote. "The boys not only stand in solidarity with the victims of the Boston explosions, but they also empathize because this is what they’ve experienced. Part of this message is being shared with Americans because they want them to know they understand the pain Americans are going through."
At least 33 people were killed and more than 160 were injured after a "wave of bombings" struck the Iraqi cities of Baghdad, Fallujah and Kirkuk on the same day as the Boston Marathon tragedy.

West Fertilizer Co. Failed To Disclose It Had Unsafe Stores Of Explosive Substance

"...The fertilizer plant that exploded on Wednesday, obliterating part of a small Texas town and killing at least 14 people, had last year been storing 1,350 times the amount of ammonium nitrate that would normally trigger safety oversight by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)...."

Boston bombing

So.  My thoughts just in case you're interested.  If you're reading this it's possible you are so I will continue.

My thoughts before I read the HuffPost article  were quite cynical.  I wondered about the huge base called Camp Bondsteel  in Kosovo and how close it was to Chechnya where the suspects are from and, once I placed the geography, whether or not it has an airfield and who controls the airspace over the Black Sea.  And whether or not the geniuses at the Pentagon were cooking up more shit that will make the whole damn planet hate US foreign policy even more than they already do.

From the Wikipedia photo it doesn't look like it has an airfield, and I hope that with one suspect dead and the other soon to be caught, that this remains a police matter, and those investigations do not lead outside the US.

Although I am disappointed that Obama has continued US military (and international mercenary) involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan I believe he is much more level headed than Bush was and won't turn this into another international clusterfuck.

Earl Klugh

Earl Klugh (pronounced "Clue", born September 16, 1953,[1] Detroit, Michigan[4]) is an American smooth jazz[2]/crossover jazz/jazz fusion[3] guitarist and composer. In 2006 Modern Guitar magazine wrote that Klugh "is considered by many to be one of the finest acoustic guitar players today."[5]

Heh.  I knew that in 1986.  Soda Fountain Shuffle is my all-time favorite CD.

Judge Dismisses Most Claims In Libor Lawsuits, Ruling In Favor Of Big Banks

Why are the banksters allowed to even use the court systems? Not only do they not pay taxes, but they screw up and the taxpayers cover their gambling losses.

Until one of the grossly overpaid criminal CEOs of these banks gets the guillotine, there is no justice in this country. NONE.

Wayne LaPierre: Michael Bloomberg 'Insane' On Guns

"Yes, we were right. And we're right that the mental health system needs to be fixed," he said of the NRA. "We want to do the real things that make people safe. What's appalled me about this whole debate is about how little it has to do with making people safe."

"... I suggest the gun advocate proactively re-direct a big chunk of its lobbying budget to support mental health outreach projects..".

Kill Anything That Moves: The Real American War in Vietnam
(c) 2013 by Nick Turse

Two people that were close to me were directly affected by the Vietnam War. A Vietnamese refugee and a US Marine who fought over there then.

Update 8:13 pm. I'm pretty sure after reading 4 chapters tonight that I'm going to have nightmares. I'm also pretty sure that the Laotian kid that was so full of hatred that I met at Job Corps in the 80's may have had a reason for that if he ever experienced anything lke I'm reading now.

It's fair, though, and doesn't throw scorn at the people caught up in the war on either side. That is reserved for the dingle-berries who thought the war was a good idea, and those who ordered stupid things from air-conditioned offices in Vietnam and D.C.

Gun laws may be different in CA than where you'e from, so pay attention

Gun Seizures on Rise in San Diego County
Inside the Sheriff's Crime Lab, there are more than 1300 firearms collected by the department
By Diana Guevara and R. Stickney | Thursday, Feb 14, 2013 | Updated 9:53 AM PST

"...A lot of our cases in the last couple of years have been college students and military personnel from out of state who just didn't know. They're legal in their state but they're not in California..."

It took me less than ten seconds of using teh Google to find this:

FAQ - Firearms - Attorney General CA.

I don't care if you want to be in CA or not, if you are here and you own a gun legally, find out what the laws are here.
