Emmys

The no good, very bad Emmys.

So, ok, I watch a lot of TV now that I don't have to tolerate the advertising because I watch on Netflix.  I sat through 10 minutes of the Emmys, 5 of which was advertising and the tv went off.  It probably will be off for a month or so barring some national or local emergency, but I will probably watch the election returns even though this city's politics veer revolting to the right and it shows in "local" coverage.  I do watch some tv online through Imdb/Hulu, but the ads are getting bad there also, and to ask people to watch the SAME ad 7 or 8 times inside of 45 minutes is an awful lot to ask. To much, if you ask me.

So anyway, I wasn't surprised that shows that I've never seen (or even heard of) won awards and I was even less surprised that shows that I've tried to watch and absolutely loathed won (Modern Family, Dancing with the Stars, Mad Men).  I hate dude's wife on Breaking Bad , but I like the show and thought the kid deserved some recognition for how well he plays Jesse.

Lol, this reminds me of my time in Dunedin (subirb of St Petersburgh, FL). Dianne and I lived in a crummy apartment with no facility whatsoever. Sorry, I lie, there WAS running water and electricity.

However, when it came to TV, ... well... it was exactly fuck all. Apparently even public TV in USA like PBS (you know, where you get real good programs like animal documentaries on cheetahs, lions, vultures, G.Bush-hyenas ,etc, well tough fucing luck, you don't frucking get it.

Makes one wonder what " TV" means in American lingo, right?

BUTTTT.... our neighbor Charlie was not only an ex convict, he was a smart dude as well, and he rig us all with cable TV, all 200 inane channels of them, no kidding.

Charlie was such a great guy. Totally out of the "normal" cycle of obedient subservient gooe Merkin, he instantly appealed to me the minute I met him.

Which was in his home-made jacuzzu in his backyard (i;e. next to ours) and where everyone was invited to jump in nekked.

That was the beginning of a long (2 year) relationship between Dianne & I and this most interesting character "Charlie".

    Ah, the good ole' days!

  2. I hate ads ~ always "tape" shows or watch via some other method, as you noted you do . . .

Skipped the Emmys but noted that the Hatfield-McCoy thing won some. That was a pretty interesting little 2-part movie, a microcosm of crazy-violent Americana and much of it true.

  3. Erik,

I noted it also, stuck the DVDs in my queue even though I'm not a big fan of westerns.
